Although progress has been made there, we are not close to a cure at this point.
It is important to remember that there are other much more dangerous viral diseases, which presumably have a higher priority than a cure for herpes. Herpes is often fatal, such as HIV. Not cause cancer or other diseases, including HPV. In fact, most people the symptoms are so mild (or no symptoms) and the person is unaware they have the same disease.
